Ludwig, Flora
A part-time clerical librarian from 1928 to 1929 (Los Angeles Public Library, 1936, p. 8).

Markson, Bess
A senior attendant from 1926 to 1929 (Los Angeles Public Library, 1936, pp. 2, 7).

Matthews, Miriam
California’s first African-American librarian. She had served as a substitute head librarian at the Vernon, Helen Hunt Jackson, Watts, and Washington Irving Branch Libraries. Was a substitute librarian at Vermont Square in 1927 and was its head librarian from July of 1949 until December 31, 1959, when it was known as the Vermont Square Regional Branch. Under Matthews’ leadership, the branch library became a cultural center. Under her leadership, the branch library became a cultural center. According to the Los Angeles Times, the educated Matthews (she has a library science degree from the University of Chicago) had worked for the Los Angeles Public Library System for 33 years before retiring in 1959 (La Ganga, 1983; Los Angeles Public Library, 1949, pp. 5, 8; Los Angeles Public Library, 1959, p. 11).

A clerical librarian from 1928 to 1932 (Los Angeles Public Library, 1936, pp. 7-8).

Meyers Lloyd, Lulah "Lulu"
A senior attendant between from 1924 to 1925(Los Angeles Public Library, 1936, pp. 2, 7).

Miller, Minnie G.
A senior attendant from 1926 to 1929 (Los Angeles Public Library, 1936, pp. 2, 7).

Millspaugh, Dorothy
A children’s librarian from 1929 to 1930 (Los Angeles Public Library, 1936, p. 8).

Morrison Rider, Edith Ione

Munkers, Della

Neely, Ora

Pott, Minnie
A full-time clerical librarian from 1932 to 1935 (Los Angeles Public Library, 1936, p. 8).

Purdum, Clara E.
First children’s librarian at the Vermont Square Library. She was added to the staff in 1915 but left the library the following year (Los Angeles Public Library, 1936, p. 1).

Rice, Medora
Replaced Mildred Adams as senior librarian from November of 1950 to February of 1952 (Los Angeles Public Library, 1949, pp. 5, 13).

Riddell, Elizabeth C.
Was formerly the first assistant in the children’s room at the Central Library in downtown Los Angeles. Became the head librarian at the Vermont Square Branch Library after Caroline Brittan left to get married in 1916. Was originally sent to Vermont Square Library to build up the children’s work. She eventually left the Los Angeles Public Library in 1918 to take charge of the Long Beach City Schools Library (Los Angeles Public Library, 1936, p. 1).

Riggs, Louisa E.
A children’s librarian from 1930 to 1935 (Los Angeles Public Library, 1936, p. 8).

Scott, Edna Lyman
A children's librarian during the beginning years (circa 1914/15) (Los Angeles Public Library, 1914, p. 30).

Sherman, Sheridan G.
A student who worked as a library page during the late 1910s/early 1920s, according to the Los Angeles Times ("First Patrons Aid," 1943).

Smith, Janet
A children’s librarian from February of 1929 to 1928 (Los Angeles Public Library, 1936, p. 7).
